PAST & PRESENT COSMOS ON HAND FOR OPENER

The 2015 Cosmos prior to kickoff at Shuart Stadium on Saturday night.


The capacity crowd of over 12,000 fans saw the team cruise to a 2-0 win at Hofstra University on Saturday night. The evening began with a several past Cosmos stars taking to the field as part of "Champions Night". Pelé was front in center and some of his past teamates were there to celebrate the evening such as, Randy Horton, Werner Roth, Hubert Birkenmier and others. Missing from the bunch was the one player most fans wanted to see. Franz Beckenbauer abruptly left the stadium grounds a few hours earlier as Werner Roth stated to the dissappointed crown due to an emergency in Munich.

 

Nonetheless, the evening commenced and the current Cosmos took command of their home "turf", early on in the match when a hand ball called on Rowdies, Darnell King brought Senna to the penalty box where he studder-stepped his way to the back of the net putting th Cosmos up 1-0. It was in the 48th minute when mid-fielder, Leo Fernandes, made it 2-0 Cosmos, making that your final score.

 

"It is definitely one of the greatest days of the new era", said Cosmos coach, Giovanni Savarese who has a strong lineup. With the additional of Raúl, making his first home appearance, whose only compliaint was playing on turf, the 2015 Comsos are poised to stir things up this spring season. Their next match will be in April 25th taking on the Atlanta Silverbacks.
